A Hot Night at our House

So the night started out pretty normally. We ate dinner and then I was cleaning up and doing other misc. things while the kids played. Tim left to go to his parents house to do some work, so I finished up my things and then started to get the kiddos ready for their bath. The water ended up being a little hotter than they normally have it, but nothing crazy. So when I got them out and we were brushing teeth and toweling off, I thought that I was just extra warm becuase of being around the hot water. Then we moved to Braxton's room where I got their lotion and jammies on...but by that time I was sweating. I thought I was having some kind of hormonal hot flash or something. I was walking to the kitchen wondering if you have hot flashes before preterm labor when the mystery was solved. I saw a stool in front of the thermostat and went and checked it out. Some little person (Jace) had turned up the heat to 95 degrees!! No wonder I was sweating! I don't know how long it had been going but it had made it up to 85 which is way hotter than the 71 or 72 we normally have it set at. I pulled Jace out to tell him it was a big no-no to touch those buttons and he told me he wanted it at 95 because that was Lightning McQueens (the main character in Cars) number. So anyways, by then I had the boys in their winter fleece jammies and they couldn't fall asleep becuase it was so hot. I opened some windows and of course turned the heat down to try and help but now it is 10:15 and I am hoping they are finally asleep. The last time I checked it had cooled down to 77. The night did bring back memories of sweating it out when we lived in AZ! : )

Happy Presidents Day...

A day late. : ) It was a happy holiday for us because Tim had the day off of work, which is always great. He got up really early to work on the basement with his Uncle Dennis who is still kind enough to stick around and help us. (we know how lucky we are) They worked on it some on Saturday too, and between the two days they got a lot done. Since the last time I posted all the duct work (vents, bathroom fans, etc) is done (we hired that out) all the can lights have been set and nailed in, the framing is done, and a lot of the electical wiring is done. Yeah! It is fun to see the progress and Tim is taking video to post to show the progress of their work.

Later that night we took the boys to Boondocks for FHE which was really fun. It has a huge climbing playground area and lots of arcade games--even ones for tiny kids that give you lots of tickets just for playing. They also have a little restaurant with pretty good food (considering the place) which gives out balloon animals or balloon swords to all the kids that eat there. Guess which ones the boys chose?--actually Jace chose for both of them...yep the swords. So we had a sword fight going on throughout dinner. After dinner they played more and with their ticket winnings from the games they got a wooden train whistle and an Elmo watch. They had so much fun and by the time we got home they were ready to get in the bath and go straight to bed which was great for us! : )

Our Valentines Day was fun too. Jace had a party at school and got lots of Valentines and candy from his friends. Aunt Jenn gave them fun bags to open when they got up, which Jace was especially excited about. He woke up extra early to open his and then woke everyone else up to open theirs. After Jace's school we headed down to my parents so Brennan could watch the boys while Tim and I got some dinner. We were going to go to PF Changs but by the time we got there (at 5:00) the wait was already 2 1/2 to 3 hours! So we went to California Pizza Kitchen instead which was only 20 minutes. It was yummy and just fun to be able to eat and talk and hang out together for the night. We had decided not to get big V-Day gifts for each other since we are blowing all our savings on the basement but Tim, being the great husband he is, got me one of the memory foam matress toppers which I love! Why, you might ask, do I love it? Because my hips and back have been killing me this pregnancy and it is 4 inches thick and has made such a big difference already. So Happy Valentines Day to me!

One other quick story to close...On Sunday we met with our bishop (nothing scary to report, just about callings : ). When we walked into his office Jace spotted the phone in the corner and said "Can I use that phone?" (also this past week he learned our home phone number and Tim's cell number so he likes to call both numbers any chance he gets) I said no, that phone is not for you. He looked up at the Bishop and said "oh, that phone is just for Jesus, right?" It was pretty funny.

Back to the Craziness

It has been a pretty crazy week around here. The boys both got over their sicknesses at the beginning of the week (thankfully), I am still trying to kick my cold but am so glad the boys are back to normal. They are both back to their crazy selves. : ) For instance, one day this week when I was doing laundry (I honestly can't remember which day it was...sometimes they are all kind of a blur together : ), I had finished folding a load and was putting it away and realized I didn't know where either of the boys had gone. I found them in the laundry room with Braxton knocking on the dryer and I open it to find Jace inside under a clean load that had just finished drying. He told me it was his favorite hiding place now. I told him how dryers are just for clothes not people, but a little while later I found him giving Braxton a boost into the dryer and telling him how fun it would be when he shut the door. So, I guess my message about dryers not being for people didn't really sink in.

On Monday I was trying to clean up after another weekend and finally had a little more energy since the boys were better (and therefore sleeping better). I got a lot done and was making a mental list of little projects I needed to get done too, like clean out the fridge and freezer, clean the blinds, wash the baseboards, etc. I still had a sinus infection so I couldn't smell anything and by dinner time I was so tired. So, we ordered some pizza so I wouldn't have to cook anything. After we ate Tim opened the fridge to put the leftovers away, and said "What is that smell?" I reminded him how I couldn't smell anything at all, then he opened the freezer and a bunch of water splashed onto the floor. Yep, our fridge and freezer weren't working, and since I couldn't smell anything I had gone the entire day without noticing. By that time, everything in the freezer had melted or defrosted and a lot of the food in the fridge had gone bad. Two bright spots in this situation were 1) Since I couldn't smell anything I didn't really mind cleaning out all the nasty food and 2) It forced me to clean out and scrub down the fridge and freezer, which really needed to be done but I don't know when I would have made time to do it. The downsides should be obvious. : ) We had a repair man come the next day and he told us our whole main board was bad....great. So, we replaced it and now it works great and is sparkeling clean!

My brother Tyler has been great too, coming up to help two Saturdays in a row. Here is his one mistake...he decided to cover up this window. Uncle Frank is looking for the best way to fix it. Tyler took care of it and now we have a window in that room again :)

Sorry the pictres are a little out of order. This is from last Sunday too, and why we gave up on going to church that week. This is our neighbor who tried to go and got stuck in the middle of the road. They were the second ones this had happened to, so we decided not to be the third. : )

Jinxes

Okay, I TOTALLY believe in jinxes. I said yesterday Brax was getting better and Jace was escaping with a very mild cold. Well, Jace has run a fever and been miserable all day and Brax took a turn for the worse today and now has a double ear infection and tonsilitis! AHHH! So from now on, I will not make any predictions for good out loud so the jinx doesn't slap me in the face again. I guess this will just make me appriciate it so much more when everyone is healthy!

On another note, tomorrow is President Hinckley's funeral. I am sure it will be much more uplifting than sad. When I found out on Sunday night he had passed away, I didn't feel any sadness, just a sort of peace. He lived a wonderfully full life of 97 years and blessed countless numbers of people. I am sure that he was welcomed with joy on the other side by not only his wife, but his mother who died when he was still young, his father, brothers and sisters, and lots of others. I am so glad I got to hear him speak as a prophet! He was an amazing man and prophet of God.
